Wind Tower Section Transporter
Sections Ø 2.3–5.0 m · up to 220 t · carried between two axle modules
Tower section adapter carried between two axle modules — sections up to Ø 5.0 m and 220 t.
Overview
A tower section is a thin-walled steel tube. It is heavy, it is up to 5 m across, and it does not want to be supported at two points and left to sag over 40 m of span — that is how a section arrives oval and stops fitting the flange above it. The HEAVYLT tower section transporter is built around that constraint: a fabricated adapter rides between two axle modules and grips the section in hydraulic clamping rings at both ends, spreading the load along the shell instead of concentrating it.
Carrying the section between the axle groups rather than on top of a low-bed also keeps the transport height down, which is what decides whether a route can pass under lines and bridge decks without a line crew and a road closure. The clamping rings need no welded lifting lugs, so there is no weld to cut off afterwards and no post-lift NDT of the shell.
Because the adapter is an interface rather than a vehicle, it works with what the fleet already runs: hydraulic modular trailer axle lines or SPMT, including mixed fleets. Send the section drawing — diameter, wall thickness, length, mass and the flange details — and the ring geometry is matched to it.
Key features
- Adapter carries the section between two axle groups — load spread along the shell, not at two points
- Hydraulic clamping rings grip the tube without weld-on lifting lugs
- Low transport height keeps the section under lines and bridge decks
- No weld removal and no post-lift NDT of the shell after handling
- Runs on HMT axle lines or SPMT, including mixed fleets
- Matched to the section drawing: diameter, wall thickness, length and flange geometry
Applications
- Tower section delivery from fabricator to site
- Port-to-site and yard-to-site tower logistics
- Offshore pre-assembly and load-out yards
- Repowering and tower replacement projects
FAQ
How is the tower section held during transport?
In hydraulic clamping rings at both ends of an adapter that sits between two axle modules. The rings grip the outside of the shell, so nothing is welded to the section and the load is spread along it rather than applied at two hard points.
What tower dimensions can it take?
Sections from 2.3 m to 5.0 m in diameter, 20 m to 42 m long and up to 220 t, which covers the current large onshore and offshore generation. Outside that envelope the adapter is quoted against the section drawing.
Can it run on our existing axle lines?
Yes. The adapter is an interface, not a vehicle — it couples to hydraulic modular trailer axle lines or SPMT, including fleets built to the Nicolas / Goldhofer / Scheuerle / Kamag / Cometto / Faymonville interfaces. Tell us what you already operate and we will confirm the coupling before quoting.
