Overview

The rotor blade is the longest load on a wind farm and the one that decides whether a route works at all. The HEAVYLT blade trailer is a telescopic, pull-out design: the rear deck extends hydraulically as the blade is loaded, so the overhang behind the last axle is carried by the trailer instead of cantilevered in free air. That is what allows a 100 m-plus blade to be moved on an ordinary road network without a rear escort vehicle chasing a swinging tip.

The root clamp grips the blade at its circular root and rotates it about the blade axis. Presenting the aerofoil edge-on is how a combination gets through a gateway, around a tight bend or under a line that would stop it broadside. The tip sits in an adjustable trolley that follows the deck, so grade changes and crown on the road do not translate into bending load at the root.

The figures below describe the current large-turbine generation. Send the blade drawing — length, root diameter, mass, centre of gravity — together with the route survey, and the trailer is sized to that blade rather than to a catalogue number.

Key features

  • Telescopic pull-out deck — the blade overhang is carried by the trailer, not cantilevered in free air
  • Rotating hydraulic root clamp presents the aerofoil edge-on through gateways, bends and line crossings
  • Adjustable tip trolley keeps the blade off the deck through grade and crown changes
  • Multi-mode hydraulic steering — crab through villages, track a curve instead of cutting it
  • Configured per blade drawing: root diameter, length, mass and centre of gravity
  • Runs with the same root-clamp interface as the HEAVYLT blade lifter, so one fleet covers both concepts

Applications

  • Onshore wind farm blade delivery
  • Port-to-site blade transport
  • Repowering and single-blade replacement
  • Routes with tight village, forest or junction sections

FAQ

What blade lengths can the telescopic trailer carry?

45 m to 120 m in the standard telescopic range, with the deck extending up to 68 m. Longer blades are quoted individually against the blade drawing and the route survey — the limit is usually the route, not the trailer.

How is the blade held during transport?

At the root by a hydraulic clamp that grips the circular root section and rotates the blade about its own axis, and at the tip by an adjustable trolley. Nothing is drilled, bonded or clamped to the aerofoil surface, so the blade arrives in the condition it left the factory.

Can it handle winding or steep access roads?

That is what the steering modes and the rotating root clamp are for: crab and diagonal steering get the combination through bends and gateways, and edge-on presentation reduces the swept width. If the route includes forest or built-up sections where even that is not enough, the blade lifter is the right machine instead.
